Rust Repairs
Rust is every car owner’s nightmare. It can eat away at your vehicle like a sinister, unseen plague. Rusting is a natural process and cannot be eliminated. It can, however, be slowed down. By regularly checking over your car for rust spots you can hone in on problem areas, even eliminating in some areas by regularly checking your car for rust spots.
Upon detecting a rust spot on the vehicle, don’t panic yet. In order to assess the rust spot, the paint has to be sanded to the origin of the rust. Many times a little rust bubble on the surface can grow to a sizeable hole on the body of the car. It is like an iceberg. All you see is a top.
There are a few ways rust repairs in cars.
If you want to pass a rego and don’t care about the long term effect of the rust on your vehicle, rust holes can be filled with filler and put under primer (gray) to protect the exposed surface of the panel against the onset of further rust. This method of rust repairs can be implemented in a non-structural part of the car, ie. floors, sill panel, pillars and more. Reason being structural parts is what protect you, the driver and passenger against grave injuries in event of the accident. I do not recommend painting repaired areas due to the rust will be out again and it will be a waste of your money to pay me for something that will be out again.
Second method of repairing rust is to cut out all rust infected metal and replace it with a brand new piece hand manufactured to suit a specific job. Unfortunately, it is impossible to weld brand new metal to the rust infected area – that is how rust grows. I need to find a healthy metal to be able to weld a patch. Cutting a big chunk of rust from the panel after welding a piece and skim of body filler applied to hide the welds. Panel is painted and properly sealed to avoid water penetration in the future. Cutting and welding of the rust process is recorded by taking images of the process and offered disk or email to the owner the record of the work carried out.
The same method of rust repairs is used to restore old and classic cars. The only difference is vehicle stripped to the bare metal for the purpose of panel beating and rust repairs from beginning, scratch, original surface.
